PROPULSION is a support programme and networking for young jazz and related music artists from the Région Grand Est and Luxembourg.

It’s a career accelerator, offering an artistic perspective and support for structuring. What makes it special is that it runs in parallel in other countries of the Greater Region.

For this first edition in 2022-2023, Luxembourg is a partner country. Maxime Bender, saxophonist, composer and director of the Centre Culturel Trifolion, will provide ‘mirror’ support for a young Luxembourg group. Neimënster Abbey, KulturLx, Jazzdor and Jazzus are partners in the programme.

This first bi-national section is the forerunner of a wider programme, which would be open to other border countries (Germany, Belgium, Switzerland) in order to create a cycle of support and regional networking for young artists around the triptych of structuring/creation/distribution.

This project initiates a new cycle of transmission. The OZMA musicians and the Compagnie Tangram team want to pass on their skills to help young musicians build an effective structure. Drawing on their 20 years’ experience and their good connections in the region, they want to work with local partners, including those in neighbouring countries, to support young jazz talent in their projects.

The DRAC Grand Est and the Région Grand Est support the PROPULSION programme. The scheme was awarded the 2022 Culture and Creation Prize by the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande Duchesse Charlotte.

The name of the programme evokes both professionalism (pro) and the idea of movement and energy, but it also relates to the notion of musicality (pulsion). As part of a partnership with the Brassart school, graphic design students worked on visuals for the creation of the PROPULSION programme, incorporating the cross-border aspect specific to the Strasbourg campus.
